Install docker on an Ubuntu Server
This is a quick convenience script, to install docker on an Ubuntu Server 22.04.2 LTS. Basically, the script below lists the commands from Install Docker Engine Ubuntu and the post-installation steps. You probably want copy and paste every line and continue if it succeeds.
sudo apt-get remove docker docker-engine docker.io containerd runc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y \
ca-certificates \
curl \
gnupg \
lsb-release
sudo mkdir -m 0755 -p /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.gpg
echo \
"deb [arch=$(dpkg --print-architecture) signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/docker.gpg] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
$(lsb_release -cs) stable" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list > /dev/null
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin
sudo groupadd docker
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
newgrp docker
Then optionally reboot and docker ps
should succeed.
